10 Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Hong Kong Besides Disneyland and Ocean Park

When people talk about Hong Kong, one of the first things that would usually come to mind is Hong Kong Disneyland. But after several visits to Hong Kong, we've discovered that there are other places or other things that the kids and the whole family can enjoy. Here's a list of 10 kid-friendly things to do in Hong Kong besides Disneyland and Ocean Park.

1.Visit Hong Kong Science Museum

📍2 Science Museum Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East, Kowloon, Hong Kong

It's a nice place to explore with your kids because aside from it being educational, it also has a lot of interactive exhibits. We happen to visit on a Wednesday and the admission is free! So fun right?! =) Here are the details for the admission: HKD20 for standard ticket. HKD10 for concessionary ticket (applicable to people with disabilities and 1 accompanying carer and senior citizens aged 60yo and above). Free admission every Wednesday for the permanent exhibition.

2.Try the Ding Ding Tram Tour

📍Western Market Terminus (Sheung Wan): 308 Des Voeux Road Central, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong Island

📍Causeway Bay Terminus: 88 Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay (located right outside the Regal Hongkong Hotel)

This has to be one of our favorites during one of our visits in Hong Kong. It makes you feel like a local riding the Ding Ding Tram. We rode at Western Market Terminus (Sheung Wan). When you book the tour, make sure you sit on the top deck. And the freebies made it more fun. Plus you get to have a golden ticket (it's a free ticket that you can use for any Ding Ding Tram should want to explore Hong Kong island more. But it is for a specific duration only once you join the tour. You can book your tour from your Agoda app and redeem our discount code to get 5% OFF. 3.Walk along Victoria Harbour

📍Victoria Harbour

This activity is FREE! But it is fun strolling at Victoria Harbour because you get to see the beautiful skyline of Hong Kong, especially at night. You can also see Avenue of Stars and the Clock Tower when you stroll here.

4.Try the Victoria Harbour Night Cruise

📍Victoria Harbour

Another fun way to see the beauty of Hong Kong and Victoria Harbour. This night cruise will sail across the harbour and it comes with drinks and snacks when you book. There are different packages that you can choose from. You can choose a sunset cruise, a symphony of lights cruise, a happy hour cruise, etc.. We personally chose the Symphony of Lights. The lightshow was just okay. Nothing extravagant. What we appreciated more was the skyline and the breeze while sailing. You can book your tickets here: 👇🏼

5.Experience eating local food

One way to get to know one country is through the food. And local food in Hong Kong is one of our personal favorites! From the roasted meats, to the different dimsum, Cantonese dishes and snacks! Everything is just so good (for us)! Even our kids enjoy the food there! You can check our food guide in our FREE Hong Kong Travel Guide when you subscribe for FREE! 👇🏼

6.Explore parks

Most parks in Hong Kong are for free and if you want an open space for your kids, visiting the free parks is the way to go! Some parks already have playgrounds too! But below you will see the playgrounds that we have visited. You will never go wrong with open spaces for your kids!

📍Kowloon Park

7.Play in public playgrounds

We have visited Kowloon Park next to BP International (hotel) and the girls had so much playing at the playground there. The variety of equipment is good for toddlers, preschool aged and elementary kids. Another playground that we visited was the Moko Park. Placed on top of the Moko Mall in Mong Kong connected to Royal Plaza Hotel. We loved this because it is also great for toddlers, preschoolers and elementary kids. Would love to bring the kids back when we visit again!

8.Ride Hong Kong's Observation Wheel

📍33 Man Kwong Street on the Central Harbourfront on Hong Kong

If you and your kids aren't afraid of heights, you may consider riding Hong Kong's Observation Wheel located at Central Harbourfront in Hong Kong island. If you are staying at Kowloon Island (TST, MongKok, etc...) you can take the Star Ferry (another iconic attraction) to cross to Hong Kong island. Then when you get off at Central Pier 7, you can walk to the Observation Wheel.

9.Visit Legoland Discovery Centre

📍Shop B131-133 B1, K11 MUSEA Victoria Dockside, 18 Salisbury Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong

This place is for lego lovers, for kids who like building and if you just want to simply find another attraction for kids. It is a small indoor playground that has interactive play areas, LEGO builds, rides, and hands-on exercises. This can be a fun activity place in case the weather is too hot or when it rains.

10.Explore Central mid-levels escalator

📍Jubilee Street and Queen's Road Central (via the Central Market) and end at Conduit Road

And another FREE activity is just simply exploring the longest covered escalator in the world. If you want to discover more of Central area, SOHO, and mid-levels, this is an interesting attraction. Central area offers a lot of food finds! And hopping on the mid-levels escalator can be fun for the kids! Tip: Just remember that the escalator operates downhill from Mid-Levels to Central in the mornings and reverses direction uphill later in the day.
